Position Summary

Academic Coaches (ACs) communicate Aim High’s teaching & learning expectations, help distribute curriculum materials and coordinate the collection of academic data. ACs will work with Site Directors, Program Directors, and the Aim High Teaching and Learning Team to ensure the training and coaching needs of Aim High teachers are met throughout the summer program. Throughout the summer, ACs will collaborate with peers at other sites and is integral to ensuring quality teaching and learning at Aim High. 

This is a six-week position: one week of faculty training and five weeks supporting the learning of middle school students. All Aim High summer staff also have the opportunity to participate in online training before the start of the summer program. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead workshops for regional and campus faculty. 
  • Assist teachers in setting and working towards meaningful goals. 
  • Support English Language Learners and students with learning differences by sharing resources with teachers, as well as developing individualized learning plans (as needed).
  • Distribute Aim High curriculum materials and assist teachers with accessing resources on Aim High’s online Teacher Center.
  • Conduct formal and informal observations, provide feedback and support to teachers and teaching teams. 
  • Meet weekly with Assistant Teachers leading academic classes and activities to support lesson planning and growth as aspiring educators.
  • Collaborate with Site Directors to ensure effective learning experiences for all students. 
  • Supervise and ensure submission of end of summer student narrative evaluations.
  • Participate in weekly teaching & learning team virtual meetings.


  • Bachelor’s degree with prior teaching experience. 
  • Teaching credential or graduate degree in education or related fields is preferred, but not required. 
  • Ability to implement high quality professional development for staff. 
  • Interpersonal, problem solving, and organization skills required to effectively facilitate coaching and staff development.
  • Knowledge and use of a rich array of instructional approaches, resources and technologies that support student learning and engagement.
  • Commitment to social justice, anti-racism and equity in education.
  • Former Aim High teaching experience is a plus. 
  • Knowledge and skill in culturally responsive teaching, project-based and inquiry-based approaches to student learning is a plus. 

Compensation and Schedule

  • This is an hourly position of $30 to $38 per hour.
  • This is a full time, non-exempt position for the six weeks of the program:
    • Program dates in San Francisco, Oakland, Richmond, Novato, San Rafael and East Palo Alto are June 13 through July 22.
    • Program dates in Napa and Tahoe/Truckee are June 27 through August 5.
  • This position is expected to work during the general hours of 8am to 4pm and up to three family evening events.
